I am trying to figure out what to do for Charlotte’s Birthday.
1 Day old 9/22/12
8 Months, 6/1/13
I’m planning on having her party 1 month before she actually turns one. Only because her brother is due 9/22/13 (the day after her birthday) and if he’s anything like a brother should be, he will be crashing her birthday.
We are baller’s on a budget. I want to have this awesome party for her but no money to do it. So I have turned to pinterest for ideas. Yes, I know she won’t remember the party or have any clue what the deal is, but I will remember it and it’s important to me.
Part of my issue is that I want to keep it somewhat gender neutral. My overwhelming urge is to go pink and girly, but all of her baby friends are boys and I want to keep it fun for them.
I think I have come up with a rainbow party. Here’s some pins I like:
I have some balls, I have a kiddie pool. I was even thinking of putting some water in it because it will be God-awful hot in August.
Use $1 plastic tablecloths to decorate doorways and windows for parties
Brilliant and helps my baller on a budget mantra.
Not the cake
Look past the cake at the baby food jars with rainbow jell-o. Great little snack for kids AND works with my baby food jar invasion.
And there’s that pin where you freeze Kool-aide into ice cubes and pour it in sprite. I can’t believe I haven’t actually pinned that.
I this is the direction I am going to go…Still looking for epic ideas so as always, if you have some, let me know!
I have tried a few Pins lately, but I have come to one conclusion: I am a crappy blogger. Take this pin for example -
I did this home-made play-doh pin for Charlotte. Only, when I gave it to her to try, I didn’t take one picture for the blog. Nope. I video taped it for home movies. Nothing for this site….
Anywho, with this play-doh, it didn’t really look or act like dough. I would be more inclined to call it slime. Charlotte did NOT like the texture. It grossed her out really bad which was hilarious for me to watch. LOL. And she had to taste it once and her face was priceless. All it is cornstarch, sugar, and water. But apparently it’s nasty.
This totally works! It says if you put your phone in a glass cup or in my case, a blender, it will make it louder. And it does! I spent a good 5 minutes just standing there taking it out, putting it in, over and over. I’m THAT easily entertained.
That’s what I have so far. I’m going to make some entries on fun pins I find, also I want some help trying to figure out what to do for Charlotte’s first birthday!
Finally making a new post. I have tried a few small pins throughout the week but have been pretty lazy in the writing department.
I also realized how depressing Pinterest is for me. The DIY clothes are no fun because I am pregnant so I don’t really want to buy clothes to cut up for my preggo self. We are moving soon so home DIY is a no-go. The food section always makes me sad because everything has something Anthony refuses to eat. And kids DIY are for toddlers which my children aren’t yet. (One isn’t even out!)
So, I’m going to ask for suggestions too. If you have ANYTHING you want tried out, let me know, because I’m having a hard time finding practical stuff for me to do for myself.
Here is what I tried this week:
I attached the website to the pic for you to check out. It’s a DIY sugar hair removal that I couldn’t get to work. You mix the ingredients over the stove and then pour it into a jar to cool. Only when it’s cooled to room temp, all the ingredients have separated and it’s just water on top with sugar on the bottom.
This was a recipe for make-up remover that I tried. I can’t really say if it was the best homemade make-up remover out there….I want to try others. It cleaned my brushes but too a LONG time and a lot of cleaner.
Then again…..I have had my brushes for 4+ years and never cleaned them so….that
might be probably is why.
Don’t see a site pic..
Get ready! I am going to create a board specifically for crap to do with baby food jars. I have a God forsaken amount already and Charlotte is only 8 months old, and with Logan coming I will be drowning in theses things. If you know me personally, expect all gifts to come in a baby food jar for a while…
This is the fist pin I am working on. Being the amazing daughter that I am, I’m completely organizing my mom’s spice cabinet and putting them into jars just like above.
That’s it so far! I am going to get my Pinterest more organized by topic so they are easier to find and navigate. Please send suggestions my way, I will try to make a new post within a couple of days. I pinky promise with sugar on top that I won’t slack off this long again.
I’ll admit I have been a little lazy lately. But I finally got my butt off the couch this week and tried the above pin out. Almost everyone I know has this pinned or at least has seen the pin. So I figured it would be a perfect (and cheap) one to try.
pick a shirt you will never wear again
Cut up in about 1/2″ strips and pull on each one.
Drum roll please…………….
Wohoo! It worked. It kinda stinks when stuff works because I have nothing snarky to say about it. Just realized this style is NOT my forte’ but it did in fact turn out like the picture.
So yep, I really don’t know what to say now….I usually have some witty remark about how wrong the pin is and how it could maybe be fixed. But this one was all it promised. AND super easy. I actually didn’t have to get off the couch to do it
You know the drill. Here’s the Pin picture and here was the description: This is what happens when you microwave a bar of Ivory soap! Then you can tear it up, color it, and mold it into shapes! It’s not wet and messy, either!
Well, half of that is true. I only used about 1/3 of the bar of soap because I was unsure of how big it would be or if it would just explode. Here was mine:
Not quite as beautiful looking.
In hindsight, I think taking a picture of it against an all white countertop was not the best photogenic idea. Any who, it was really cool when it expanded. Totally reminded me of those snake fireworks.
The Pinterest picture makes it look dense and solid in a way. Instead it is very much airy and HOT. You CANNOT mold it or do diddly squat with it because by the time it cools down enough to touch, it crumbled apart when you do anything with it. Observe:
crumbled into dandruff-like flakes.
I couldn’t get it to mold together or stick together. It was a pain in the ass to clean and it’s not something that can be played with. Would I do it again? Probably. Only because seeing it expand in the microwave was super cool. And it make my kitchen smell soapy fresh! But besides the microwave excitement, this pin is a dud.
The only instructions for this pin: Use Elmer’s glue and food coloring painted on clean dry glass=seaglass effect!
I really want to talk to the lady who actually did these candle sticks because I couldn’t figure it out. Maybe I just have a destructive craft hand…Here was my first attempt:
I used a container because apparently the dollar store doesn’t have glass candlesticks…so I picked these up instead. Obviously it’s blue but it’s definitely not flawless. No matter what I did, I couldn’t get the brush lines to go away and I did two coats with this one.
The next one I originally thought “Maybe I made the coats too thick and should do lighter ones”. 2 coats in it hit me, every time I went to paint over the dried glue, it would make the glue wet again and cause the color to clump up in areas and created the uneven color. SO, I went and washed it all off to start over. This time only doing one dark coat.
This came out deeper but still couldn’t get the brush strokes out or make it completely even all around. I did find that all you really need is an itty bitty amount of glue, most of the mixture should be the food color.
Anywho…I like my pots but they definitely aren’t what the pin looks like. I don’t know how they made them perfect because I sure as hell couldn’t figure it out.
Oh yeah! This was also really time consuming. But then again I tried it like 5 different times so yeah…ok I’m done now.
Caption that was under the pin: Another Pinner Says : Chicken Lo Mein. Not only will my kids eat this…they ask for second helpings. It’s that good.
Yeah…Well your kids have HORRIBLE taste in food. The picture looked so yummy but all the “flavor” you see…yeah, it’s not there.
All I could taste was the noodles. Which was not a good flavor, very bland. The sauce was the only other thing I could taste and that didn’t help either. I don’t know how to even explain it…just NO!
And the flavor was so funky we couldn’t save it. There was nothing that could be added to it to make it edible. There really is no way to describe the weird taste this was…It was just wrong.
I didn’t eat it. I took one bite, tried a little more soy sauce and took another bite, and then straight in the garbage. There was no suffering through it.
There is the recipe so you can be on the lookout…Don’t waste your money on this. I beg you!
